  • Catherine O'Neil Here is the update...though you should listen to Werner tell the entire story! Werner is well, the swelling on the leg is down, his sense of humor over the incident is intact. The boat on the other hand is still in deep water. There is a plan at noon on Tuesday to float it up to the surface, and see what to do from that point.

  • Jim Anderson Michael, they were clearly taken. A sail doesn't just slide off the mast AND the boom, the jib blocks are both gone, the traveler block is gone and needed a stopper removed first, and several lines are gone which needed to be untied. What puzzle me is that they bailed thousands of gallons of water out of the boat. I think they may have been actually trying to salvage it. I made a sign and put it up near where the boat was telling them to call me to return the parts, but haven't heard anything.

  • Michael S. Thorud I still wonder if they removed the sail just to be able to right it easier, and that the sail could still be in the water where the capsized boat was at the time it was righted.

  • Jim Anderson That could be, I did look around for missing parts but the problem is that it drops off really deep really fast in that area. If you walk around the lake on the south end you will see a rock that has a plaque showing an 1835 (I think) map of the area, the boat was tied to a tree about 40 yards west of that rock. Very hard to see anything in the water there.

  • Jean Huselid I hope this all turns out well but it is turning into quite the mystery of the E-Scow!

Jim Anderson Michael may be right. I got a call today from someone who said they saw my sign, and saw what looked like a mainsail floating in about 6 feet of water roughly 200 feet up the shore, to the northeast. By the time I got there it was gone, but is probably drifting underwater somewhere close. So if you are at the lake and between the 36th street dock and the south and of the lake, keep an eye out for it!
